There's a window open right now that I think closes faster than people expect - and if you've been eyeing a business class redemption on Singapore Airlines, ANA, or Air Canada itself, the math just got a lot more interesting.

Air Canada Aeroplan just launched a 90% bonus on purchased points, bringing the cost down to 1.44 cents per point. For the right redemption, that's not buying points - that's buying a business class ticket at a discount. Let's get into it.

Air Canada Aeroplan is running its best buy-points promotion in a while: a 90% bonus on purchased points, which brings the effective cost to 1.44 cents per point. The promotion is live now and worth taking seriously for anyone planning a premium cabin redemption.

Aeroplan is genuinely one of the most flexible programs out there. You can use Aeroplan miles to book Singapore Airlines Suites, ANA business class, Lufthansa First, and dozens of other partner airlines - often at rates far below what those carriers charge through their own programs. Critically, Aeroplan allows stopovers on one-way awards, which unlocks some genuinely creative routing options.

At 1.44 cents per point, a business class redemption to Europe that costs around 60,000 Aeroplan miles would run you about $864 in purchased points. That's a steal compared to what you'd pay in cash for the same seat. One more thing: if you hold Rove Miles, there's also a live 25% transfer bonus to Aeroplan running through June 6. That's a separate angle worth stacking if you have Rove miles sitting idle.

Here's something that genuinely surprises people when they find out: the exact same flight - same plane, same seat, same day - can cost anywhere from 7,500 miles to 40,000-plus miles depending on which loyalty program you use to book it.

Every airline prices its own award inventory differently, but partner airlines - airlines you can book through another program's miles - don't control how those partner programs price the seats. So a Delta flight might cost 12,500 SkyMiles if you book through Delta directly, but only 7,500 miles if you book the same seat through a partner program like Virgin Atlantic Flying Club or Air France-KLM Flying Blue.

The gap isn't always this dramatic, but it's almost always there. And if you're booking a long-haul business class seat, the difference can easily be 40,000-60,000 miles - more than some entire welcome bonuses.

A couple of months ago, Amex quietly tightened the eligibility rules for the Bonvoy Brilliant and Bevy cards. Previously, the main barrier to getting the welcome bonus was holding the Chase Ritz-Carlton card. But the new rules extended that barrier to ALL Chase Bonvoy cards - which locked out a much larger group of applicants.

Amex appears to have reversed those changes for the Brilliant specifically. If you hold a Chase Bonvoy card (other than the Ritz-Carlton), you should now be eligible for the Bonvoy Brilliant welcome bonus again. This is a meaningful reversal - the Brilliant is a strong premium hotel card, and the eligibility window being open won't necessarily last.

Capital One is currently running strong welcome bonuses on both of its Venture-branded business cards. The Venture X Business - Capital One's premium option - continues to offer what's become one of the most compelling business card bonuses available right now. The lower-fee Venture Business card is running an equally strong offer for those put off by a higher annual fee.

Capital One miles transfer to a wide roster of partners, including Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Air Canada Aeroplan, Singapore KrisFlyer, and now Qantas Frequent Flyer - with a live 20% transfer bonus to Qantas running through May 31. If you're thinking about positioning miles for a future Asia or Australia redemption, stacking a Capital One welcome bonus with that transfer bonus is a smart combination.

The very first JW Marriott-branded all-inclusive resort - the JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa in Guanacaste, Costa Rica - is now accepting reservations ahead of its fall 2026 opening. Developed on the site of the former Dreams Las Mareas, this is a full reimagination rather than a rebrand.

New resort openings often come with introductory award pricing before demand catches up - which makes booking early worth considering if Guanacaste is on your list. Marriott Bonvoy points apply here, and the property sits in one of Costa Rica's best resort corridors. Keep in mind the Amex to Hilton +20% transfer bonus runs through May 30 if you'd rather compare a Hilton all-inclusive alternative on the Pacific coast - but for Marriott loyalists, this is a new option worth watching.

If you hold Citi ThankYou points and have been eyeing a stay at a Leading Hotels of the World property, today is the last day to transfer at the 25% bonus rate. The promotion expires May 16. Leading Hotels of the World includes some genuinely exceptional independent luxury properties - think properties that aren't Marriott or Hilton but compete at the same tier.

After today, this bonus is gone until Citi runs it again - which is never guaranteed. If you have a specific property in mind, transfer now and book later. The points don't expire once they hit your LHW account.

The answer is 🅲️ - 5x more miles through the wrong program.

We covered a real example in today's story: the same seat on the same flight can cost as little as 7,500 miles through the right partner program, versus 40,000-plus through another. That's not a rounding error - that's the difference between a trip that costs one card welcome bonus versus five. The lesson is always to compare pricing across programs before transferring. Once you move points to an airline, you generally can't get them back.
