☀️ TRENDING MILES & POINTS NEWS

  • 💳 Chase Sapphire Reserve is offering its best-ever 150,000 point welcome bonus - and nobody knows how long it lasts

  • 🚨 Frontier Airlines told the DOT its booking fee was 'optional' - but shows up to charge $25 at the airport anyway

  • 🛒 Rove Miles is paying up to 15x on shopping portal purchases and bonuses on first hotel bookings right now

  • 💰 Etihad buy-points deal ends May 24 - that's tomorrow - at just 2.08 cents per mile with a 35% discount

150,000 points. That number sitting in a welcome bonus box on a credit card application page is not something you see every day - and it changes the math for a lot of people.

There's a lot packed into today's issue: the Chase Sapphire Reserve's best-ever offer, a Frontier fee scam that's drawn regulator attention, and a Rove Miles promo that's flying under the radar. Let's get into it.

🤓 Miles & Points Trivia

The Citi AAdvantage lineup has two premium cards. One costs $350 per year, the other $595. Which benefit does ONLY the $595 Executive card include?

  • 🏟️ Admirals Club airport lounge access

  • ✈️ AAdvantage miles on every purchase

  • 🧳 First checked bag free

  • 🌐 Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit

💳 Chase Sapphire Reserve Just Hit Its Best-Ever Bonus

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is offering 150,000 Ultimate Rewards points after meeting the spending requirement - and that's not a number Chase throws around lightly. This is the highest welcome bonus the card has ever offered.

From 60K to 150K - What Changed

For context, this card has historically offered 50,000 to 60,000 points at launch and during typical promotions. Seeing 150,000 points is a genuine step-change. At a conservative valuation of 1.5 cents per point, that's $2,250 in travel value sitting behind a single application.

The card carries a $550 annual fee, but between the $300 annual travel credit, Priority Pass lounge access, and the Chase Travel portal perks through The Edit collection, many cardholders offset a significant portion of that fee in year one - before counting the bonus at all.

Nobody knows how long this offer runs. These elevated bonuses tend to disappear quietly, often with no advance warning. We covered this one in detail earlier this week - if you've been sitting on the fence about the Reserve, this is the best argument it's ever made for itself.

🚨 Deal Alert: Etihad Buy-Points Sale Ends Tomorrow

If you've had your eye on an Etihad redemption, this one closes tomorrow - Sunday, May 24. Etihad Guest is offering a 35% discount on purchased miles, bringing the cost down to 2.08 cents per mile.

Etihad miles are useful for Business Class redemptions on partner carriers, and the program occasionally surfaces availability that other programs can't touch. The window is tight - don't let this one slip.

🚨 Frontier's 'Optional' Fee Is a Fiction

Frontier Airlines has been telling customers - and the Department of Transportation - that its online booking fee is optional. The workaround, they claimed, was simple: just buy your ticket at the airport counter instead.

The $25 That Proves the Whole Thing Is a Lie

There's one problem. When customers actually show up at the airport to book, Frontier charges a $25 booking fee there too. So the 'optional' fee isn't optional at all - it's just split between two different checkout points. The DOT is now aware that Frontier's own filings confirm this, and it's the kind of regulatory exposure that tends to move slowly until it doesn't.

From a points-and-miles angle, the takeaway here is straightforward: Frontier's pricing is designed to obscure total cost until you're too far into the booking process to easily turn back. If you're ever comparing Frontier fares to a paid-cash or award alternative, factor in fees that won't show up in the headline price.

Frontier said its airport booking option was how customers could avoid the online fee. Frontier also charges $25 to book at the airport.

🛒 Rove Miles: 15x on Shopping and First Hotel Booking Bonuses

Rove Miles is running a short-term promotion that's worth knowing about, particularly if you haven't used the platform before. The program is offering bonus miles on first-time hotel reservations and up to 15x miles at select shopping portal merchants.

Why Rove Is Actually Useful Here

What makes Rove interesting isn't the platform itself - it's what you can do with the miles afterward. Rove transfers to Japan Airlines, Air Canada Aeroplan, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa Miles & More, and others. And right now, there's a 25% transfer bonus when moving Rove Miles to Air Canada Aeroplan, running through June 6.

Stacking a 15x earning rate on shopping with a 25% transfer bonus to Aeroplan is exactly the kind of combination worth paying attention to. Aeroplan has long been one of the most flexible programs for booking Star Alliance partners, including United flights domestically and Lufthansa business class internationally.

You can check all current transfer bonuses in one place - including the Rove-to-Aeroplan deal and three others running right now - using our transfer bonuses tracker.

💳 Citi AAdvantage Globe vs. Executive: Which Card Actually Makes Sense

Citi's two premium AAdvantage cards have very different price tags - $350 for the Globe and $595 for the Executive - and the decision between them mostly comes down to one thing.

Admirals Club Access Is the Entire Argument

The Executive card includes complimentary Admirals Club membership, which on its own retails for hundreds of dollars annually. If you fly American regularly and would use the lounges, the math tips toward the Executive despite the higher fee. If you don't fly American enough to make lounge access worthwhile, the Globe card offers similar earning rates and perks at a lower entry point.

Both cards earn AAdvantage miles, include free checked bags, and offer priority boarding. The Globe is the smarter pick for moderate American flyers. The Executive is for people who would otherwise be paying for an Admirals Club membership separately.

Speaking of AAdvantage miles - American is currently running a 40% discount on purchased AAdvantage miles at 2.26 cents per mile, through June 13. If you're short of an aspirational redemption, that's worth calculating.

✈️ United Adds Cleveland Routes - Biggest Schedule There in a Decade

United Airlines announced new nonstop service from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to Miami and Las Vegas, with both routes launching later this year. The carrier is calling this its largest Cleveland schedule in about a decade.

For MileagePlus members in the Cleveland area, this means more earning opportunities on United metal and - potentially - more award availability on these leisure routes. Miami and Las Vegas are both high-demand corridors, which historically means United releases some saver award space to fill seats.

If you want to track award availability on these new routes as they open up, Award Travel Finder monitors availability across all major programs daily.

💰 Current Offers Worth Acting On This Weekend

A few time-sensitive items to flag before the weekend closes them out.

The Chase Ultimate Rewards to Air France-KLM Flying Blue 20% transfer bonus runs through May 27 - that's this Tuesday. Flying Blue is one of the most useful programs for transatlantic awards, and the bonus effectively stretches your Chase points further on routes to France and beyond.

On the hotel side, Amex Membership Rewards to Hilton carries a 20% transfer bonus through May 30, and Hilton is separately running a 100% buy-points bonus at 0.5 cents per point through May 29. Neither of those is a screaming deal on its own, but combined they represent useful optionality if you're short of a specific Hilton award night.

JetBlue's TrueBlue is offering a 125% buy-points bonus through June 10 at 1.43 cents per point - that's genuinely one of the better buy-points rates in the market right now if JetBlue redemptions are on your radar. Friday Flight Deals also spotted some strong JetBlue cash fares this week if you'd rather not spend points at all.

🌎 Trivia Reveal

The answer is: Admirals Club airport lounge access.

The $595 Citi AAdvantage Executive card includes complimentary Admirals Club membership - something the $350 Globe card does not offer. Both cards earn miles, include free checked bags, and carry priority boarding. But lounge access is the Executive's defining differentiator and the primary reason to pay the extra $245 annually.

💬 Quick Question

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is at 150,000 points right now - its best-ever offer. Are you already a cardholder and sitting this one out, or is this the moment you're finally applying? Hit reply and let me know - I read every response and I'm genuinely curious how many of you are jumping on this one.

That's it for today. The Frontier fee story is one of those slow-burn regulatory situations that's easy to dismiss - until it isn't. Keep an eye on that one. And if the Chase Sapphire Reserve number is calling your name, don't assume it'll still be 150K next week.
