If you want SkyTeam elite perks without flying a single mile for them, one of the cheapest doors is in Nairobi. Kenya Airways is running a paid status match into its Asante Rewards program through StatusMatch.com, and unlike many of these offers, it is open to US residents. It accepts airline status, hotel status and certain travel rewards credit cards. You can also see it alongside every other live offer on Award Travel Finder's Kenya Airways page.
🧠 Quick trivia: Which alliance tier do you get when you match to Asante Rewards Gold? Answer at the bottom.
✈️ What You Get
Approved applicants receive Asante Rewards Silver Elite, Gold Elite Plus or Platinum Elite Plus, based on the status you already hold. Kenya Airways says these tiers align with SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus, and it lists Delta, Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic, Korean Air, Saudia, SAS and others among the airlines that recognize them.
Status lasts 12 months from approval. After that, Kenya Airways reviews your status based on your flight activity.
For US residents, Asante Rewards Gold Elite Plus, which aligns with SkyTeam Elite Plus, costs $299 with no flying required.
💵 What It Costs for US Residents
Fees depend on where you live and what you match with. For residents of Canada, the USA or anywhere in the Americas:
Match using | Silver Elite | Gold / Platinum Elite Plus |
|---|---|---|
Airline status | $99 | $299 |
Hotel status | $99 | $299 for Gold (Platinum only for Accor Gold and above) |
Travel rewards credit card | $99 | Not available |
The rules on tiers matter. Credit card holders can only match to Silver Elite, and you must pay the fee with the eligible card. Hotel status holders top out at Gold Elite Plus, except Accor Gold, Platinum and Diamond members, who can reach Platinum. You cannot apply for a higher tier than the one you hold elsewhere. If your application is declined, the fee is refunded.
💳 The Credit Card Angle
This is the part that makes the offer unusual. Kenya Airways accepts a list of eligible travel rewards credit cards, including Visa Infinite, Visa Signature, Visa Rewards and Visa Platinum cards, Mastercard World and World Elite cards, and American Express Platinum and charge cards. Holders of an eligible card can apply for Silver Elite. That means someone with no airline status at all can get entry-level SkyTeam recognition for $99.
If you already carry an Amex Platinum, you have another option. Amex Platinum cardholders get complimentary Hilton Honors Gold and Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status as a card benefit, and Amex Platinum is on Kenya Airways' list of eligible cards for the Silver Elite route. Whether your hotel status can match higher than Silver depends on how your exact tier maps on Kenya Airways' eligibility table. Check the table on the application site before you pay. We cover more ways to stack card perks like this in our Status Match 101 guide.
📋 How to Apply
First, open a free Asante Rewards account if you do not have one. Then go to the Kenya Airways status match page, choose your country of residence, upload proof of your current status and pay the fee. Kenya Airways says you will hear back within three business days, and approved status appears in your account within three more.
Only one Asante Rewards status match is allowed per person, and your other status must be active when you apply.
💭 My Take: Who Should Pay $299?
I like this offer most for one type of traveler: someone in the US who flies Delta, Air France, KLM or Virgin Atlantic internationally a couple of times a year but does not have the spend to earn Delta status. SkyTeam Elite Plus is where the useful alliance perks start, like lounge access on international itineraries and extra baggage, though each airline applies its own lounge rules, so check before you rely on them. Before you pay, use the Airport Lounge List access finder to see which lounges SkyTeam Elite Plus actually opens at the airports you use.
For mostly domestic Delta flyers, I would skip it. The value of SkyTeam status shows up on international trips. And if you are still deciding between alliances, our SkyTeam members list shows exactly where this status can travel with you.
📝 The Fine Print
First, Kenya Airways and StatusMatch.com can end or change the offer at any time, and there is no fixed deadline. Second, residents of Argentina, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan are not eligible, and the application may ask for ID such as a passport or driver's license. Third, your status benefits only apply to flights after your new tier is active, so do not expect retroactive perks on a trip you have already taken.
🧠 Trivia answer: SkyTeam Elite Plus. Asante Rewards Gold Elite Plus and Platinum Elite Plus both align with it, while Silver Elite aligns with SkyTeam Elite.
