Something quietly shifted in the loyalty world overnight - and if you missed it, you might be kicking yourself by Friday.

Two separate opportunities collided in the last 24 hours that, when you put them together, tell a really interesting story about where the best points value is hiding right now. One involves a shopping portal going absolutely nuclear. The other is a transfer bonus deadline that a lot of people have been sleeping on. Let's get into it.

Let's start with the number that sounds too good to be true: 100 points per dollar. That's what Rakuten is dangling in front of shoppers right now at select retailers - and you can earn those points as either Amex Membership Rewards or Bilt points.

To be clear, not every store is at 100x - that's the ceiling. But even at 20x, 30x, or 50x, you're earning a serious pile of transferable points on purchases you were probably going to make anyway. Amex Membership Rewards transfer to partners like Air France Flying Blue, Hilton, and more. Bilt points transfer to World of Hyatt, United, and American Airlines, among others.

The key here is stacking. Earn your normal credit card points on the purchase, then layer Rakuten points on top. On a $500 purchase at a 50x retailer, that's 25,000 Amex or Bilt points - potentially worth $500 or more in premium cabin redemptions.

If you've been thinking about signing up for Rakuten, the timing couldn't be better. New members also get a cash bonus or points kicker on top of the portal earnings.

This one has a hard stop: the Chase Ultimate Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy 65% transfer bonus expires May 15. That's Thursday. If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve, Preferred, or Ink card sitting on a stack of Ultimate Rewards points, this is worth a serious look before it disappears.

Standard Chase-to-Marriott transfers go at 1:1. With this bonus, 60,000 Chase points become 99,000 Bonvoy points. That can be the difference between a standard hotel night and a Category 6 free night at a Park Hyatt or Ritz-Carlton property.

Worth noting: Marriott points are generally valued lower than Chase points on a per-point basis, so make sure you have a specific redemption in mind before pulling the trigger. If you're sitting on a free night award you want to top off, or you need a specific number of points for a redemption that's already in your cart, this is a great window.

If you're a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder who's been eyeing the free WHOOP membership benefit - that window closed yesterday. The offer, which gave CSR holders access to a nearly free year of WHOOP's Life membership (the fitness wearable that competes with Oura Ring), expired May 12.

WHOOP Life memberships normally run around $239 per year. For CSR holders, Chase was covering the vast majority of that cost - a quietly strong perk that flew under the radar for most cardholders. This is exactly the kind of cardholder benefit that often goes unclaimed simply because people don't know it exists.

The broader point here: if you hold a premium travel card, it pays to audit your benefits every few months. Most cards are adding and rotating credits faster than ever right now, competing directly with Amex's Platinum-style credit ecosystem. The CSR's WHOOP perk is a perfect example of something that appeared, ran its course, and disappeared - and most people missed it entirely.

Quick heads up before this slips away: Air Canada Aeroplan is offering a 30% discount on purchased points through today, May 13. That prices Aeroplan points at roughly 1.9 cents each - which is a solid rate given how much flexibility Aeroplan offers across Star Alliance partners.

Aeroplan lets you book on United, Lufthansa, Swiss, ANA, and dozens more - often at lower prices than those airlines' own programs. Business class to Europe on Lufthansa or Swiss can run 60,000-70,000 Aeroplan points one-way. Buying 70,000 points at 1.9 cents each would cost you about $1,330 - still a very compelling deal compared to cash fares that often run $3,000-$5,000+ in business.

You can also combine purchased Aeroplan points with the Rove Miles to Aeroplan transfer bonus (25% through June 6) if you need to top off. Worth cross-referencing all the current buy points promotions before this one closes.

If you've been thinking about applying for a new Amex card for the welcome bonus, there's one thing to verify before you hit apply: Amex enforces a one-welcome-offer-per-lifetime rule on most of their cards. Unlike Chase's 5/24 rule, this one doesn't reset - once you've earned the bonus on a specific card, you generally won't qualify for it again.

Amex uses a 'popup' during the application process that warns you if you're not eligible for the welcome bonus - and importantly, if you proceed with the application in that case, you still get approved for the card, just without the bonus. That's a very expensive miss on a card with a $695 annual fee.

Also worth knowing: the Amex Membership Rewards to Hilton 20% transfer bonus runs through May 30 - so if you do have MR points sitting idle, there's a near-term window to put them to work.

For JetBlue flyers: TrueBlue is running a 125% bonus on purchased points through June 10, pricing them at roughly 1.43 cents each. That's one of the better buy rates we've seen for JetBlue points in a while.

JetBlue points are useful for Mint business class redemptions on transcon routes, and they also transfer to and from select hotel programs. If you have a specific Mint redemption in mind and you're just a few thousand points short, this is a legitimately good fill-up option.
