Something quietly shifted in the loyalty world this week - and it has nothing to do with an airline devaluation or a fee hike. Two genuinely interesting things happened that actually benefit travelers. That's rare enough that it's worth leading with.

Rove Miles just launched transfers to Air Canada Aeroplan with a 25% bonus. But which of these programs is NOT currently a Rove Miles transfer partner?

Rove Miles - the program that isn't tied to any bank, airline, or hotel chain - keeps quietly building out one of the more interesting transfer ecosystems in the points world. Yesterday it added Air Canada Aeroplan as a transfer partner, at a 1:1 ratio, with a 25% launch bonus running through June 6.

That means for every 1,000 Rove Miles you transfer, you'll land 1,250 Aeroplan points. And Aeroplan is genuinely one of the best programs out there right now - excellent Star Alliance coverage, no fuel surcharges on partner awards, and strong sweet spots to Europe and Asia.

Rove also added live Aeroplan award search inside its platform, which makes it much easier to check availability before you transfer. That's a meaningful quality-of-life upgrade that most programs still haven't figured out.

If you've been accumulating Rove Miles and need a reason to actually use them - this is a strong one. The 25% bonus stacks on top of Aeroplan's already-favorable redemption rates. Worth running the numbers before June 6.

GHA Discovery - the hotel loyalty program covering 800+ properties including Kempinski, Pan Pacific, and Anantara - just rolled out a partnership with Blacklane, the premium chauffeur service. And the mechanics here are genuinely clever.

Every Blacklane ride now earns GHA Discovery status credits. You can hit Silver after 3 rides, Gold after 6, Platinum after 9, and Titanium - the program's top tier - after just 11 rides. No hotel stays required.

The value stacks nicely if you're already a Blacklane user. Citi Strata Elite cardholders get a $200 annual Blacklane credit, which means you could be working toward top-tier hotel status with rides you're essentially getting at a discount anyway. Blacklane also offers rebates and vouchers on top of that.

GHA Discovery Titanium comes with perks like suite upgrades, late checkout, and complimentary breakfast at participating properties. For frequent ground transportation users who don't always rack up hotel nights, this is a legitimately useful shortcut worth paying attention to.

Emirates posted a record $6.6 billion profit for its most recent financial year - making it the world's most profitable airline for the second year running. And the airline is celebrating in a way that puts profit-sharing at US carriers to absolute shame.

It's been barely a month since Southwest Airlines launched its first flights into Sonoma County - and Alaska Airlines is already firing back. Alaska announced three new routes out of Sonoma (Santa Rosa) launching this fall: Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Boise.

Alaska is also returning service to Long Beach as part of this expansion. For travelers in Northern California, this means more options and - hopefully - more competitive pricing heading into the holidays.

Alaska's Atmos Rewards program is in a genuinely interesting moment right now. The program replaced Mileage Plan after the Alaska-Hawaiian merger, and with a 100,000-point welcome offer now live on the Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite card (plus a 25,000-point award and 50% off a companion fare), there's a strong case for picking it up if you fly the West Coast regularly.

Friday Flight Deals has been tracking some competitive cash fares out of the West Coast too - worth checking if you'd rather keep your points in the bank.

IHG One Rewards just opened registration for a new summer promotion running May 20 through August 31. There are two earning tracks to pick from: 2,000 bonus points every two nights, or 8,000 bonus points every four nights.

The math here actually matters. The 8,000-point-every-four-nights track works out to 2,000 points per night - identical to the other option. But if you have a longer stay planned, the four-night track rewards it more efficiently in a single payout. If you're doing a lot of one- or two-night stops, the two-night track keeps you earning regardless.

Registration is already open even though the promo doesn't start until May 20. Go register now before you forget - these promos only count nights booked after enrollment.

There's a piece worth reading today from The Points Guy - a writer whose father was a Million Miler on both United and American, a genuine points expert. And even with that level of expertise in the family, there were still costly mistakes when it came time to handle his miles after he passed.

The lessons are ones most of us haven't thought about: which programs let you transfer points to a beneficiary, which ones simply expire with the account, and what documentation you'll need. Programs vary wildly on this - and the window to act is often shorter than people expect.

It's not the most cheerful Saturday read, but it's genuinely useful. If you have a significant points balance anywhere, it's worth spending 10 minutes today figuring out what happens to those miles if something happens to you. Rove Miles currently transfers to Air Canada Aeroplan (just added, with the 25% launch bonus), Emirates Skywards, and Singapore KrisFlyer - among others. American AAdvantage is not yet a Rove partner. Whether that changes down the road remains to be seen, but for now, Aeroplan is the big new addition.
