Something quietly shifted in the loyalty world overnight - and one of the changes is very good news, while the other has the points community on high alert.

Let's start with the good one.

🤓 Miles & Points Trivia

Which US gateway cities are included in Singapore Airlines' current 30% KrisFlyer award discount for April travel?

  • 🗽 New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle

  • 🌴 Miami, Houston, Chicago and Dallas

  • 🏔️ Denver, Phoenix, Portland and Las Vegas

  • 🌊 Boston, Washington DC, Atlanta and Orlando

✈️ Singapore Airlines Just Cut KrisFlyer Awards 30% for April

This is the kind of thing you want to act on quickly. Singapore Airlines has opened its latest batch of discounted KrisFlyer awards for April travel, and this round is particularly compelling for US-based readers.

New York, LA, SF and Seattle Are All on the List

The discounted routes aren't just Singapore-bound either. We're talking connections through to Europe and Asia as well, which dramatically expands the usefulness of this promotion. A 30% reduction on Singapore Airlines metal - including their exceptional Business and First Class products - is genuinely meaningful.

If you've been sitting on KrisFlyer miles waiting for the right moment, April travel windows are open now. The catch with these promotions is they tend to move fast once word gets out.

🚨 Alaska's Partner Award Prices Just Jumped - Glitch or Devaluation?

This one is still developing, so treat it accordingly. FlyerTalk users noticed yesterday that Alaska Airlines' partner award pricing had increased significantly - and not by a small margin. We're talking meaningful jumps on partner-operated itineraries, particularly on flights involving connections.

Why the Hawaiian Airlines Merger Complicates This

Here's the important nuance. As part of the Hawaiian Airlines acquisition, Alaska made commitments not to devalue its miles - but those protections apply to Alaska-operated flights, not partner awards. And the award charts themselves aren't specifically protected, only a minimum value per mile guarantee.

That legal distinction is significant. If this turns out to be a permanent pricing change rather than a technical glitch, it would represent a notable devaluation for anyone relying on Alaska miles to book partner carriers.

Alaska also has a buy miles promotion running right now - a 90% bonus at 1.98 cents per mile, ending March 18. Given the uncertainty around partner award pricing, I'd hold off on purchasing until this situation clarifies.

💳 Chase Freedom Q2 2026 Categories Are Open - Register Now

Q2 starts April 1, and Chase has opened registration for the Chase Freedom Flex's bonus categories. This quarter features Amazon, Chase Travel, Feeding America, and Whole Foods - all at 5 points per dollar on up to $1,500 in combined spending.

The Amazon Category Is the One to Focus On

Amazon at 5x is where the real volume is for most people. If you run even modest Amazon spending through Q2, this alone could net you thousands of points. The $1,500 combined cap means a potential 7,500 points from this category if you max it out - that's a meaningful haul from a no-annual-fee card.

The same categories apply to the legacy Chase Freedom card if you still carry one. Registration is required, so don't assume you're automatically enrolled - head to the Chase portal and activate now before April 1 sneaks up on you.

If you want to understand exactly what those points could be worth, our Chase Points Calculator can help you put a dollar value on the haul.

🏨 Bank of America's Travel Portal Is Getting a Makeover - With a Catch

Bank of America is signaling a major overhaul of its travel portal, with a new experience expected in Q2 2026. The catch? Right now, the portal is blocking any new travel bookings with a check-out date after December 31, 2026.

What This Means for Long-Range Planners

If you're a BofA cardholder trying to use your rewards points to book travel that extends into 2027, you're blocked for now. The good news is the current portal has never been particularly competitive, so an overhaul is genuinely welcome news - if the end product delivers.

For now, if you need to book far out, your best bet is to use points from other programs or simply wait for the new portal to launch. We'll keep an eye on this one as Q2 approaches.

🚨 Deal Alert: American Airlines $4,000 Voucher Offer Had an Unexpected Twist

This one is worth knowing about as a cautionary tale and a fascinating data point. American Airlines was reportedly offering passengers up to $4,000 each to volunteer off an oversold flight to Aspen - a remarkable number from a carrier that typically keeps these offers low.

Here's the twist: passengers who declined that offer and stayed on the flight ended up diverting to Grand Junction, then completing the trip to Aspen by bus. The volunteers likely got the better deal.

The broader takeaway - if you're ever at a gate and an airline is offering vouchers at that level, it might be worth doing the math. A $4,000 voucher on American could represent significant award travel if used strategically alongside AAdvantage miles.

Our American Airlines Miles Calculator can help you figure out what that kind of credit is worth in real terms.

💡 Premium Card Fatigue Is Real - Here's How to Fix It

There's an interesting piece making the rounds about premium card fatigue - and honestly, it's something I hear from readers constantly. The Amex Platinum and Chase Sapphire Reserve have both evolved into what essentially amount to coupon books, and tracking every credit every month can start to feel like a part-time job.

Treating These Cards Like Tools, Not Puzzles

The framing that resonates most - cover the annual fee with credits you'd actually use anyway, value the lounge network you'll genuinely visit, and put spend where the earn rates make mathematical sense. The 'extras' should feel like bonuses, not requirements.

If you're wondering whether either card makes sense for your situation, we have detailed breakdowns on both. Our Is the Amex Platinum Worth It and Is the Chase Sapphire Reserve Worth It guides walk through the math properly.

Not a points booking this time? Friday Flight Deals publishes weekly cash fare finds that sometimes make more sense than burning miles - especially on routes where cash prices are surprisingly low.

💰 Transfer Bonuses Worth Knowing About

A few transfer bonuses are running right now that tie directly into today's stories. Chase Ultimate Rewards is offering a 20% bonus when transferring to British Airways Avios, Iberia Avios, or Aer Lingus Avios - all ending March 31. If you're thinking about Avios redemptions, this is the window to move points.

Meanwhile Amex Membership Rewards has a 15% bonus to Avianca LifeMiles running through March 28 - LifeMiles remains one of the best programs for booking Star Alliance partners at reasonable rates.

See all active transfer bonuses on our dedicated tracker.

Chase to British Airways Avios: 20% bonus through March 31. Amex to Avianca LifeMiles: 15% bonus through March 28. Both end soon.

🌎 Trivia Reveal

The answer is: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. All four US gateway cities are included in Singapore Airlines' current 30% KrisFlyer discount for April travel - and routes extend beyond Singapore itself to Europe and Asia too. If you have KrisFlyer miles sitting around, this is a legitimately good window.
