American Airlines is updating the point at which flight attendants begin preparing the cabin for landing - and they're starting the process earlier than before. That means service suspends sooner, lavatories close earlier, and the window for ordering that last drink or making use of the facilities shrinks.

On shorter domestic routes, this is a meaningful shift. If you're on a 90-minute flight, you might find that the service window is noticeably compressed. The practical impact: don't wait until descent to visit the lavatory or flag down a crew member.

This isn't a miles-and-points catastrophe, but it's one of those quality-of-life changes that adds up across frequent flyers. For anyone booking a lot of American domestic flights, it's worth knowing before you're caught off guard mid-descent.

The American Express pop-up warning is showing up for more applicants lately, and it's worth understanding exactly what triggers it. The pop-up appears during the application process and tells you that you won't receive a welcome bonus - even if you're approved for the card. You can still proceed with the application, but you'd be getting the card with no bonus attached.

Amex's internal logic flags applicants who they believe are churning cards primarily for the welcome offer. The triggers aren't published officially, but patterns in the data suggest: applying frequently across multiple Amex cards in a short window, not spending heavily on existing Amex cards, and closing cards quickly after meeting minimum spend all raise your risk.

The safest approach before applying is to put meaningful spend on existing Amex cards in the weeks prior, and check your eligibility status before submitting a hard pull. If the pop-up appears, decline the application - there's no credit inquiry consequence if you walk away at that stage.

Rove Miles to Aeroplan: 25% bonus through June 6. American Airlines AAdvantage miles at 40% discount through June 13. JetBlue TrueBlue 125% buy bonus through June 10. Copa ConnectMiles 80% bonus through June 10. United MileagePlus 100% bonus through June 24. Marriott Bonvoy 40% bonus through June 23 at just 0.89 cents per point - one of the cheaper ways to top up Bonvoy if you're close to a free night.
