United's MileagePlus overhaul is now live, and the program has officially become a two-class system - not in the cabin, but in how you earn and redeem. Cardholders on Chase United co-brand cards now unlock faster mileage earning on flights, access to lower "PlusPoints" saver award inventory, and cheaper redemption prices across the board.

Non-cardholders, by contrast, earn fewer miles on flights than before. United is being transparent about it: the card has always mattered, but now it matters more than ever to get the best value out of the program.

To sweeten the timing, Chase and United are offering up to 110,000 bonus miles on the new card application - one of the highest offers we've seen. The Amex Business Platinum Card is sitting at a welcome offer as high as 300,000 Membership Rewards points right now - and that number deserves a pause. At standard valuations, 300K Membership Rewards is worth somewhere in the range of $3,000 to $6,000 depending on how you redeem, making this one of the most valuable welcome offers available on any card in the market today.

This card already comes loaded with perks: a $695 annual fee, yes, but also a $200 airline fee credit, access to Centurion Lounges, Priority Pass, a $189 CLEAR credit, and a 35% points rebate when you book flights through Amex Travel. For business owners spending heavily, the annual fee becomes significantly easier to justify.

Those 300K Membership Rewards points transfer to 21 airline and hotel partners - including a current 20% bonus to Hilton through May 30 and a 10% bonus to JetBlue through May 11. If you're eyeing a premium redemption, Award Travel Finder has been tracking some exceptional Business Class availability this week that pairs perfectly with a fresh Amex haul.

Hotel payment scams have leveled up in a way that should put every traveler on high alert. Fraudsters posing as hotel staff are now reaching out to guests demanding payment via Zelle, PayPal, or Venmo - and the terrifying part is that they already know your name, check-in dates, reservation number, and which property you're staying at.

That's not a phishing guess - that's leaked booking data. Reservation systems at third-party booking platforms have been compromised repeatedly, and those details are being used to make fraudulent payment requests look entirely legitimate. The messages often reference a "system upgrade" or "payment verification" requirement that necessitates paying outside the hotel's normal channels.

The rule is simple and non-negotiable: hotels do not request payment through Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, or bank transfer. Ever. If you receive any message asking you to settle a balance through one of these platforms - even if it references details that sound accurate - call the hotel directly using the number from the official website and verify before doing anything. If you paid with a credit card for the original booking, your card issuer is your best protection if something does go wrong.

Good news if you have Air France-KLM Flying Blue miles sitting around: the program's improved expiration policy went live yesterday, and accounts have already been updated to reflect the new rules. Previously, miles expired if there was no account activity within a 24-month window - a policy that caught plenty of occasional travelers off guard.

The updated policy gives members more runway before miles disappear, which is especially welcome given that Flying Blue transfers in from both Chase Ultimate Rewards and Amex Membership Rewards. Speaking of which - Chase is currently running a 20% transfer bonus to Flying Blue through May 27. That combination of a longer expiration window and a live transfer bonus makes this a particularly good moment to move points across if you've been sitting on Chase Ultimate Rewards and considering a European trip.

If you've been watching the buy points promotions, American Airlines is currently offering AAdvantage miles at a 40% discount - bringing the cost down to 2.26 cents per mile and running through June 4. That's one of the longer windows we've seen on a buy miles promotion, which gives you time to plan before pulling the trigger.

The sweet spot here is international Business Class redemptions on partner airlines where AAdvantage pricing still offers strong value. American Airlines has an automated rebooking system that predicts whether a connecting passenger will make it to the gate - and when it decides they won't, it gives their seat away. Passengers who made it to the gate with boarding still underway in Miami have arrived to find their seats already reassigned, with no explanation until they're turned away at the door.

One of the documented cases involved a passenger missing a wedding as a result. American hasn't commented publicly on the specific incidents, but the pattern suggests the algorithm is being too aggressive - acting on predictions before the actual miss has occurred. If you're connecting through a busy hub on American, give yourself more buffer than you normally would. The system may not wait to see whether you actually make it.
