✈️ Miles & Points Daily
Something quietly shifted in the hotel loyalty world yesterday - and if you redeemed Wyndham points even six months ago, your mental math just stopped being accurate.
🤓 Miles & Points Trivia
Wyndham Rewards just moved from a 3-tier to a 4-tier award chart. Before the change, what was the maximum number of points required for a top-tier Wyndham award night?
🏨 15,000 points
🏨 30,000 points
🏨 45,000 points
🏨 60,000 points
The answer is waiting near the bottom of today's newsletter... keep scrolling. 👇

| 🏨 Wyndham Just Made Its Best Hotels Cost 50% More Points | |

Four Tiers, Higher Ceiling
Wyndham Rewards has officially launched its new 4-tier award chart, and the headline number is hard to ignore: top-tier properties now cost 50% more points than they did under the old structure. The program previously ran a 3-tier chart with a ceiling of 30,000 points per night. That ceiling has now moved to 45,000 points for the most premium properties.
But here's where it gets more nuanced - the changes aren't uniformly bad. The cheapest properties have actually dropped in price by up to 33%, so budget-friendly Wyndham hotels just got more accessible. If you were targeting a Hampton Inn or a mid-tier property, this change might actually work in your favor.

Where This Stings - and Where It Helps
The pain is concentrated at the top. Anyone who had their eye on a higher-end Wyndham property - think the better Curio Collection, Registry Collection, or upscale resorts - is now looking at a significantly steeper points bill. If you were holding Wyndham points specifically for a luxury redemption, this is a real hit.
On the flip side, if you primarily use Wyndham for mid-range domestic stays, the lower entry tiers getting cheaper is genuinely useful. The program has always punched above its weight for budget-conscious travelers, and that remains true.
The bottom line
Check any upcoming Wyndham redemptions against the new chart immediately. If you have a high-end property bookmarked, price it out now and decide whether to lock it in or pivot your strategy. For mid-tier properties, the new chart might actually save you points.

| 💰 IHG Points at 0.5 Cents Each - Is the 100% Bonus Worth It? | |

The Rare Moment Buying Hotel Points Makes Sense
IHG One Rewards just launched a 100% bonus on purchased points, which works out to 0.5 cents per point. That's in line with the best promotions we see from IHG - this kind of deal doesn't come around constantly, so it's worth pausing to think through the math.
The strategy here is straightforward: if you have a specific high-value IHG redemption in mind, buying points at this rate can represent a meaningful discount on what you'd otherwise pay in cash. IHG's top-tier properties - including InterContinentals in expensive markets - can run $400-600 a night in cash. If you can book them for 70,000-100,000 points, you're looking at $350-500 in purchased points, which often beats the cash rate.
The bottom line
Only buy if you have a specific redemption in mind - don't stockpile speculatively. IHG award pricing can shift, and points bought without a target booking often sit unused. If you do have a target property, run the numbers using our buy points promotions tracker to compare this against other active offers before committing. The promotion runs through October 2.

| 💳 Chase Freedom Flex Q4 Registration Is Open - 5x on Groceries | |
Q4 2026: Grocery Stores, Wholesale Clubs, and More
Chase has opened Q4 2026 bonus category registration for the Chase Freedom Flex, and the categories are strong. For October through December, Freedom Flex cardholders earn 5x points on grocery stores, wholesale clubs, and select travel.
If you carry a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve alongside your Freedom Flex, those 5x points become transferable Ultimate Rewards - which is where the real value lives. Grocery spending between now and year-end on this card, combined with a transfer partner, can stretch surprisingly far.
Don't Forget to Register First
The catch with the Freedom Flex is that the quarterly bonus does NOT activate automatically. You have to opt in, and the registration is now open for Q4. If you skip registration, you earn the standard rate - not the 5x. It takes about 90 seconds on Chase's site or app. Do it now before the quarter starts and you forget.
The bottom line
If you have a Freedom Flex, register for Q4 categories today. If you're stacking with a Sapphire card, plan to route your grocery and wholesale club spending through the Flex for the rest of the year - those points add up fast heading into the holiday shopping season.

| 🚨 Deal Alert: Rove's 4-Day Referral Window Closes Thursday | |
This one has a tight clock. Rove Miles is running a referral promotion from September 15 through September 18 - meaning you have until this Thursday to act. New members who sign up through a referral link get 1,000 free transferable miles with no purchase required. Then, for each person you refer, you earn another 1,000 miles plus 10% of whatever miles they earn from eligible activity in their first six months.
What makes Rove interesting isn't the referral structure - it's where those miles go. Rove transfers to Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, and Air Canada, among others. JAL in particular is one of the most underrated business class sweet spots in the miles world. Getting a free entry position into Rove's ecosystem costs you nothing.
If you have friends or family interested in travel rewards, this is a genuinely easy win to share before Thursday. Use the referral link and both sides benefit.

| 🚨 Tonight Only: Flying Blue 80% Buy Miles Bonus Expires at Midnight | |
This is the last call: Flying Blue's 80% bonus on purchased miles for Air France and KLM expires tonight. If you've been sitting on a specific redemption - a business class flight to Europe, a partner award, anything Flying Blue can touch - and you need to top up your balance, tonight is your window.
Flying Blue is also relevant right now because the Amex Membership Rewards 30% transfer bonus to Aer Lingus, British Airways, and Iberia Avios runs through September 27. If Avios is more relevant to your next trip, that's a separate but complementary opportunity still open for another 11 days.
The Flying Blue 80% buy-miles bonus expires tonight, September 16. After midnight, the standard rate returns.

| ✈️ Southwest's First Lounges, Chase's October 1 Hyatt Hit, and What the Experts Are Saying | |
Southwest Lounges in 2027 - Chase Gets the Premium Card
The Upgraded Points podcast this week dug into Southwest's biggest structural moves in years. The airline is debuting its first-ever lounges in late 2027, with the first four locations confirmed as Austin, Baltimore, Honolulu, and Nashville. Chase is involved in the development, which means a new premium Southwest credit card is likely coming alongside them.
More immediately relevant: the same episode flagged the Chase Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt transfer ratio dropping from 1:1 to 4:3 on October 1 - for Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders. We covered the AA-Hyatt breakup and Delta moving in last week, but this transfer ratio change is a separate and meaningful devaluation. If you have Chase points you were planning to move to Hyatt, October 1 is your hard deadline.
The bottom line
If you're a Hyatt loyalist sitting on Chase Ultimate Rewards, decide before October 1 whether to transfer at the 1:1 rate while it's still available to you. After that date, you'll need 4 Chase points to get 3 Hyatt points - every transfer costs you 25% more currency than it does today.

🌎 Trivia Reveal
The answer is 30,000 points. Under Wyndham's old 3-tier structure, the maximum award rate for a top-tier property was 30,000 points per night. The new 4-tier chart raised that ceiling to 45,000 points - a 50% increase for the most premium properties.

💬 Quick Question
Wyndham isn't the flashiest loyalty program, but it has its fans - especially for domestic travel and road trips. Do you use Wyndham points at all, or have you written the program off? Hit reply and let me know - I read every response and I'm genuinely curious how many of you have Wyndham in the rotation.

That's it for today. The Wyndham chart change is the kind of quiet devaluation that doesn't make headlines but absolutely changes the math for anyone with points sitting in that account. Check your balance, check the new chart, and make a call.
