✈️ Miles & Points Daily

Something quietly shifted in the loyalty world overnight - and it points in two very different directions. On one hand, Hilton just made buying points more attractive than it has ever been. On the other, Bilt quietly announced it is joining Chase in making Hyatt harder to reach. Both stories matter, and both have a deadline attached.

🤓 Miles & Points Trivia

Hilton just launched its best-ever buy-points bonus. But outside of promotional periods, what's Hilton Honors' standard annual cap on purchased points per member?

  • 🅰️ 80,000 points

  • 🅱️ 160,000 points

  • 🅲 400,000 points

  • 🅳 500,000 points

Scroll to the bottom for the answer - it's hiding near the sign-off. 👇

120% bonus - the biggest Hilton has ever run

If you have been waiting for the right moment to top up your Hilton Honors balance before a big redemption, this is it. Hilton launched a 120% bonus on purchased points yesterday - meaning for every 1,000 points you buy, you get 1,200 more for free. That is not a rounding error. It is the highest bonus Hilton has ever offered on a points purchase.

The math works out to roughly 0.45 cents per Hilton point when you factor in the bonus. That is not a windfall, but if you already have a specific redemption in mind - say, a Waldorf Astoria or Conrad property where cash rates are eye-watering - buying at this price makes sense. The key rule here is the same as always: never buy points speculatively. Have the booking locked in your mind first.

The bottom line

If you have a Hilton stay on the horizon and you are 30,000 to 50,000 points short, this is a genuinely rare window to close the gap cheaply. Check your Hilton Honors balance now and decide whether topping up makes sense before this promotion closes.

💳 The New IHG Premier Select Card - Does $350 Make Sense?

Chase's most premium IHG card gets a full workout

We covered the IHG Premier Select launch a few days back when Friday's newsletter broke down the new card's headline numbers. But now the full reviews are out from multiple sources, and the picture is a bit more nuanced than the launch press release suggested.

At $350 per year, the IHG One Rewards Premier Select sits above the $150 Premier card and targets IHG loyalists who want automatic Platinum Elite status, an annual free night certificate, and travel credits that can offset much of the fee. The card earns up to 28x points at IHG properties, which sounds dramatic until you remember that IHG points are worth roughly half a cent each on average. The real value is in the free night and the status acceleration.

The bottom line

If you stay at IHG properties regularly and can use the free night certificate plus the travel credits, this card likely pays for itself. If you're a casual IHG guest, the $150 Premier card remains the stronger value proposition. Use the IHG Business card if your spending is business-oriented. Chase has built a solid three-tier IHG stack - just make sure you know which rung you're actually standing on.

🚨 Bilt Just Made Hyatt Points More Expensive to Reach

4:3 transfer rate lands in January - same move Chase already made

Frequent Miler broke this one open: Bilt is moving to a 4:3 transfer ratio with World of Hyatt starting January 1, 2027. That means you will need 4 Bilt points to get 3 Hyatt points, down from the current 1:1 rate. Sound familiar? It should - Chase made the same cut to its Sapphire cards earlier this year, and we covered the fallout in detail back when it hit.

The Frequent Miler team laid out three paths forward in their Coffee Break episode today. Option one: earn Bilt at 3x or more (rent payments still count at 1x, but dining and travel earn higher). Option two: lean on the Chase Sapphire Reserve, which still earns 3x on travel and dining. Option three: put more spend directly on the Hyatt card to earn World of Hyatt points without any transfer tax applied.

Whether Hyatt is still worth chasing in 2027

The Frequent Miler crew's honest take: Hyatt is still one of the best hotel programs in the world for aspirational redemptions, but the points are getting harder and more expensive to accumulate from transferable currencies. The Chase-to-Marriott 70% transfer bonus running through next Thursday October 15 is a good reminder that transfer bonuses can temporarily restore the math - keep an eye on whether Bilt eventually runs something similar to Hyatt.

The bottom line

If you have Bilt points earmarked for Hyatt, move them before January 1, 2027 at the current 1:1 rate. After that, the calculus changes. For new Hyatt point accumulation, the Hyatt card itself becomes more attractive than it has been in years.

Alaska's program just made international redemptions interesting

Atmos Rewards - the loyalty program from Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines that we covered in depth last month when the American Airlines partnership launched - just dropped its October Members Day offers. The headline: round-trip flights to Seoul starting from 20,000 Atmos points. That is a genuinely strong number for a transpacific route.

The October Global Getaways also include new destinations, and Atmos has added an Ikon Pass redemption option for ski season. The Rewards Master on YouTube made a compelling case this week that Atmos might be the easiest mid-tier airline status to earn in the US right now, partly because the American Airlines partnership means Atmos status delivers real value even if you rarely fly Alaska or Hawaiian. Worth a look if you have been ignoring it.

The bottom line

If you have Atmos points sitting idle, Seoul at 20,000 round-trip is worth running the numbers on. Award Travel Finder is a good starting point for checking actual seat availability across partner airlines before you commit.

🏨 JW Marriott Just Opened Its First All-Inclusive Resort

Costa Rica's Guanacaste region gets a Bonvoy property worth watching

JW Marriott's very first all-inclusive resort is now open for guests. The JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort and Spa sits in Guanacaste, Costa Rica - built on the bones of the former Dreams Las Mareas property, which was completely reimagined by developers Mullen Real Estate Capital. This is a meaningful moment for Marriott Bonvoy members because all-inclusive properties on points have historically been rare.

If you have Marriott Bonvoy points and you have been waiting for a turnkey beach vacation option in Central America, this is worth bookmarking. The Chase-to-Marriott 70% transfer bonus running through Thursday October 15 makes this timing interesting - that bonus ends in exactly 7 days. If Costa Rica is on your radar for 2027, now is a reasonable moment to top up your Bonvoy balance at a favorable rate.

The bottom line

The JW Marriott Costa Elena is new inventory in a program that does not have many true all-inclusive options. Lock in Bonvoy points via the Chase transfer bonus before next Thursday if a Costa Rica trip is on the horizon.

🚨 Deal Alert: EVA Air Buy-Points Discount Expires Tonight

💰 Transfer Bonuses Worth Acting On This Week

There are 11 live transfer bonuses right now, which is an unusually high number. A few that stand out: Amex Membership Rewards to Hilton at 30% ends this coming Wednesday October 14 - that is 6 days from now, and given the Hilton buy-points offer also running right now, it is worth thinking about whether earning or transferring makes more sense for your specific balance situation. Citi ThankYou to JAL Mileage Bank at 30% runs through October 24, and if you saw the 10xTravel episode this week on using JAL miles to book Air France flights at a fraction of the Flying Blue price - that combination is genuinely worth exploring. Rove Miles to JAL at 50% through October 31 is the highest single transfer bonus live right now for any currency-to-airline pairing.

The full list of what's live is updated daily on our transfer bonuses tracker - worth a bookmark if you move points regularly.

💬 Quick Question

Buying points is one of those topics that splits the miles community right down the middle. Some people swear by it for the right redemption, others refuse on principle. Where do you stand - have you ever bought points and come out ahead? Hit reply and tell me your story. I read every single response, and the best ones might make it into a future newsletter.

That's it from me today. The Hilton 120% offer and the Bilt-Hyatt rate cut are the two stories I'll be thinking about longest - one opens a window, the other closes one. Make sure you know which side of each you're on before January.
