✈️ JetBlue Raises Bag Fees Again

The fee wave may be starting over

JetBlue announced yesterday that it is raising checked bag fees for the second time this year. Going forward, customers pay at least $50 per bag, a 28% jump from the lowest fee before the change. (The Points Guy)

Here's what makes this one worth watching: the last time JetBlue moved, United followed, then Delta, American and Southwest. Seven months later, JetBlue is leading again. If the pattern holds, expect your next domestic trip to cost more at the bag drop.

Where co-brand cards earn their keep

Every time fees climb, the free checked bag perk on airline cards gets more valuable. If you fly one carrier a few times a year, a card with a free bag can pay for itself in a single family trip. The Southwest Premier Business card, for example, includes a free checked bag and Preferred seat upgrades within 48 hours of departure for a $149 annual fee.

The bottom line

If you check a bag more than twice a year on one airline, run the math on a co-brand card or elite status before the next hike lands. If you travel carry-on only, nothing changes for you today.

💳 Citi AAdvantage Business: 75,000 Miles, and Status for Two

A welcome bonus with a status twist

Citi rolled out a limited-time offer on the Citi / AAdvantage Business World Elite Mastercard: 75,000 bonus miles after $5,000 in purchases within the first five months. That lines up with the highest offer we've seen on the card. (View from the Wing)

The unusual part is what comes after. Spending on an employee card earns Loyalty Points for both the employee and the primary cardmember, so the same purchases can help two people chase American Airlines elite status.

Who this fits

If you run a small business, or you and a partner both fly American and can route real business spend through one card, the double-dip is the most interesting angle here. If you already have a stack of American cards, check your eligibility first, since Citi has its own rules on how often you can take a bonus on the same card family.

The bottom line

Strong bonus, real status upside, and a clear path to hit the spend if you have business expenses. If you're a casual American flyer with no business spend, pass.

🚨 Deal Alert: JetBlue 120% Bonus Ends Tomorrow

JetBlue's 120% bonus on purchased TrueBlue points ends tomorrow, Thursday, November 5. That is a deep bonus by any standard, but buying points only makes sense when you have a specific redemption in mind and the math beats the cash fare.

Meanwhile, a few other sales are still running, with more breathing room:

Alaska's Atmos Rewards is at 110% through this Saturday, Finnair Plus is 50% off through November 16, and Southwest is 45% off through November 17. Our buy points tracker has every live offer in one place.

The bottom line

Only buy if you have a booking ready to go. A 120% bonus on points you will never use is still a waste.

💰 A $200 Amex Offer Hiding on One Marriott Card

A new targeted Amex Offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card is paying a $200 statement credit when you spend $900 or more on flights. That is roughly 22% back on a booking you may already be planning. (Doctor of Credit)

The catch is the usual one: it is targeted, so log in and check your Offers tab before you buy anything. If it shows, compare it against what the same card earns on airfare in the first place.

The bottom line

If it's in your account and you have a $900 flight to book anyway, take it. Do not manufacture a flight to chase it.

🏨 Hyatt Dining and Spa Awards, and Two Hotels Opening Soon

A lesser-known way to spend Hyatt points

Most people redeem World of Hyatt points for free nights, but Dining and Spa awards are a quieter option that can be a surprisingly good deal. They are especially handy when you want to cut out-of-pocket costs during a Hyatt stay.

With Hyatt award prices climbing this year and transfer ratios from Chase and Bilt shrinking, it is worth knowing every way to squeeze value from the points you already hold.

Park Hyatt Phu Quoc and Andaz Turks & Caicos get dates

On the new-hotel front, Park Hyatt Phu Quoc in Vietnam is now set to open in December 2026 (TravelExtra), years after its original 2022 target. The 59-room Andaz Turks & Caicos at Grace Bay is now bookable for an April 2027 opening (The Points Party).

The bottom line

Dining and Spa awards are a niche play, but a smart one if you have leftover points. For the new hotels, wait for reviews before you commit big points to opening-week stays.

🌎 Trivia Reveal

The answer is $50. JetBlue's new minimum checked bag fee is $50 per bag, a 28% jump from the lowest fee before the increase.
