There's a window open right now that I think closes faster than people expect - and it involves one of the most versatile points currencies in the game sitting at its highest-ever bonus.
But before we get to the good stuff, there's a loyalty betrayal story out of British Airways that genuinely had me shaking my head. Let's get into it.
🤓 Miles & Points Trivia
Today's question: The Chase Sapphire Reserve just hit a record 150,000-point welcome bonus. But what is the minimum spend required to unlock it?
💰 $4,000 in 3 months
💰 $5,000 in 3 months
💰 $6,000 in 3 months
💰 $8,000 in 3 months
The answer is waiting for you near the bottom of today's newsletter. Keep scrolling. 👇

💳 Chase Sapphire Reserve Just Made History
150,000 points. That's not a limited-time mistake or a targeted mailer - it's the new public welcome bonus on the Chase Sapphire Reserve, and it's the highest offer ever posted openly on the card.
To put that number in context: at a conservative valuation of 1.8 cents per point, you're looking at roughly $2,700 in travel value from the sign-up bonus alone. That's before you earn a single point on ongoing spend.
The $795 Annual Fee Question
Yes, the annual fee is $795. But the card comes with a $300 travel credit, $300 in StubHub credits (activation required), Priority Pass lounge access, strong protections, and access to Chase's transfer partners - including Air France Flying Blue, Hyatt, United, and more. For frequent travelers, the math tends to work out.
Speaking of transfer partners - and this is timely - Chase just launched a 20% transfer bonus to Air France-KLM Flying Blue through May 27. If you've been sitting on Chase Ultimate Rewards and eyeing a European redemption, this combination is hard to ignore.
There's also a 65% bonus on transfers to Marriott Bonvoy running right now, though that one requires more careful math - Marriott redemptions tend to need larger quantities to shine.
Not sure if you're eligible for the bonus? The 5/24 rule still applies, and Chase has specific restrictions on Sapphire products. Check the eligibility details carefully before applying.

✈️ British Airways Told Elites They Were Safe - Then Changed Their Minds
This one stings. British Airways has been overhauling its elite status program, shifting to a revenue-based qualification model that makes it significantly harder to earn status. That change was already controversial among frequent flyers.
Then came the second blow. Some elite members received communications indicating they had been renewed under the old criteria - only to receive a follow-up message reversing that decision and downgrading their status anyway. No compensation, no explanation that held up under scrutiny.
The Reversal BA Won't Explain
What makes this particularly frustrating is that these weren't borderline cases. Members were told one thing, planned their year around it, and were then told something completely different. The lack of goodwill from the airline makes it worse.
If you're a British Airways elite member navigating this new landscape, our friends at Smart With Points have been covering the BA status overhaul in detail from a UK perspective.

⚠️ Citi Is Killing Free Points Sharing - Act Before May 17
Quiet changes are sometimes the most damaging, and Citi just made one. Starting May 17, 2026, the Citi ThankYou program will eliminate its Points Sharing feature - the ability to transfer points freely between member accounts.
This has been a genuinely useful feature that set Citi apart from its competitors. Couples, travel partners, and families have used it to pool points toward aspirational redemptions - think business class tickets that required more points than one account had alone.
Pool Points Now Before the Door Closes
If you have points spread across multiple Citi accounts - or if a family member has been accumulating ThankYou points that you were planning to combine - do it before May 17. After that date, the feature is gone.
There's also a separate note worth flagging here: there's currently a 25% transfer bonus from Citi ThankYou to Leading Hotels of the World, valid through May 16. That deadline lands the day before the sharing feature disappears - so if you were thinking about it, the clock is running on both fronts.
Two Citi deadlines land back-to-back: the 25% bonus to Leading Hotels of the World expires May 16, and Points Sharing disappears May 17. If you have plans for your ThankYou points, this week is the week to move.

🚨 Deal Alert: Flying Blue Promo Rewards for May - Up to 25% Off Awards
The timing on this couldn't be better. Air France-KLM's Flying Blue program just dropped its May 2026 Promo Rewards list, offering discounted award tickets across a solid range of destinations - including several in the Americas.
And with Chase's 20% transfer bonus to Flying Blue running through May 27, the effective cost of awards this month is lower than usual. You're essentially getting a discount on top of a discount.
The premium cabin options to North America are limited under Promo Rewards, so economy and business class on shorter routes are where the value tends to concentrate. Award Travel Finder is worth checking if you're hunting specific availability - they track redemption sweet spots across all programs daily.

🦘 Capital One Launches 20% Qantas Transfer Bonus - Is It Worth It?
Capital One kicked off May with a new transfer bonus: a 20% bonus on transfers to Qantas Frequent Flyer, running through May 31, 2026.
Qantas is one of the less commonly used transfer partners in the Capital One ecosystem, and the honest answer is that for most US-based travelers, there are better ways to deploy Capital One miles. Qantas awards redemptions tend to shine most for travel within Australia and on oneworld partners for routes where other options are less competitive.
That said, if you've been eyeing a Qantas-operated long-haul redemption or a oneworld business class sweet spot, a 20% top-up is real money. Use our transfer bonuses tracker to keep an eye on all current offers across programs.
💰 Buy Points at a Record Low: JetBlue and United Offers Expiring Soon
Two buy-points promotions deserve attention right now - one for its sheer size, and one for its urgency.
JetBlue TrueBlue is running a 125% bonus on purchased points through June 10, bringing the effective cost to just 1.43 cents per point. JetBlue points price dynamically, so cheap redemptions are there when you find them - and at that purchase price, the math can work for specific routes. Use our JetBlue Points Calculator to run the numbers for your target flight before buying.
More urgent: United MileagePlus is offering a 50% discount on purchased miles at 1.88 cents each, but this one expires May 4 - that's just two days away. If you have a United redemption in mind and need a top-up, this is the window.
You can see all current buy-points promotions across every program in one place at our buy points offers page.
🌎 Trivia Reveal
The answer is: $6,000 in the first 3 months from account opening.
That's a $2,000/month spend pace over three months - manageable for many cardholders, especially if you're putting regular expenses, a vacation booking, or any big purchase on the card during that window. At 150,000 points, the math on hitting that threshold is very friendly.
