Something quietly shifted in the loyalty world over the holiday weekend - and it didn't come with a press release. Frontier Airlines buried some sweeping program changes while everyone was focused on Labor Day travel, and the details are worth your attention if you've ever held status with the carrier.

Frontier Airlines announced changes to its loyalty program that it framed as 'enhancements.' The reality is more complicated - and for most elite members, significantly worse.

Diamond status (the top tier) now requires fewer status points to earn, which sounds like good news on the surface. But Silver and Gold members now need MORE status points to qualify, and elite benefits across all tiers have been sharply cut. Mileage earning rates have been reduced and elite perks that once made Frontier status worth chasing have been quietly removed.

If you were working toward Silver or Gold this year, your goalposts just moved. And if you already hold status, the benefits attached to that status are now worth less than when you earned it. This is the kind of change that tends to accelerate customer defection rather than reward loyalty.

We've covered Frontier's loyalty moves before - back when they were adding perks and positioning themselves as a challenger to the major carriers. This latest round of cuts tells a very different story about where the airline is heading.

If you're a Frontier Silver or Gold member, now is a good time to recalibrate. The program is objectively worse than it was a month ago. If you're on the bubble for Diamond, the lower threshold is a silver lining - but the reduced benefits mean you should think hard about whether the status is worth the effort at all. Check what you're actually getting before spending toward it.

On August 28, a trademark application was filed for the term 'Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Business.' That's not the kind of name you trademark by accident. The Bonvoy Brilliant is currently Marriott's flagship personal Amex card - a premium product with a $650 annual fee and a free night certificate. A business version would be a first for the Bonvoy portfolio.

Nothing is confirmed yet - Marriott and Amex haven't made any official announcement. But trademark filings like this almost always precede a product launch. The question is timing and structure: will it mirror the personal Brilliant's benefits, or carve its own path?

Right now, Bonvoy-earning business cards are limited to the Amex Business Card (mid-tier) and the Bevy. A premium business option with elevated earning on Marriott stays, lounge access perks, or a high-value free night certificate would fill a real gap - especially for road warriors who put significant spend on a business card and want hotel rewards in return.

Don't apply for a Marriott business card right now while this is still in trademark territory. But do keep an eye on this space. If a Bonvoy Brilliant Business launches with a strong welcome bonus and a free night certificate worth 85,000+ points, it will be worth serious consideration - especially for existing Marriott loyalists who max out their personal card annually.

Rakuten is currently offering up to $400 cash back - or 40,000 Bilt points - when you apply for the Bank of America Travel Rewards Credit Card through their portal. That's the highest Rakuten bonus Frequent Miler has ever tracked on this card. Alternatively, you can pick up 25,000 Bilt points on the Customized Cash Rewards or Unlimited Cash Rewards cards from Bank of America.

The Bilt points angle is what makes this interesting. Bilt transfers to airlines like United, American, Air Canada Aeroplan, and hotels like Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio - meaning 40,000 Bilt points could become 40,000 Hyatt points (worth up to 8+ free nights at a Category 1 property) or 40,000 United miles.

If you've been planning to open a Bank of America card anyway, running it through Rakuten right now adds serious incremental value. The Bilt points option is the better choice for most miles-and-points people versus taking the $400 cash. Just make sure you haven't received a Rakuten bonus on this card previously - the bonus is for new cardholders through the portal.

We've covered the Citi AAdvantage Executive card's record 125,000-mile welcome bonus recently, and that bonus is still live. But if you're shopping the AAdvantage card lineup and trying to decide between the $350 Globe and the $695 Executive, the choice comes down to one question: how much do you value Admirals Club lounge access?

The Executive card includes full Admirals Club membership, which retails at $850 annually on its own. That immediately makes the $695 annual fee look like a discount - if you actually use the clubs. The Globe card, meanwhile, earns more miles per dollar on American purchases (4x vs 3x on the Executive) and carries a lower fee. For lighter travelers who prioritize earning over lounge access, the Globe can actually come out ahead.

Fly American more than 8-10 times a year? The Admirals Club access on the Executive card pays for the fee difference and then some. Fly less frequently or prefer cash-equivalent earning? The Globe's lower fee and higher earning rate on AA purchases makes more sense. The 125,000-mile bonus on the Executive still tips the scales for most people right now - but only if you'll actually use the lounge access long-term.

Citi ThankYou points transfer to Leading Hotels of the World's Leaders Club at a 5:1 ratio - meaning 50,000 ThankYou points becomes 10,000 LHW points. That sounds rough. But Frequent Miler dug into the actual redemption values today and found the picture is more nuanced: LHW properties often charge rates where 10,000 points can offset $300-$500+ in room costs, making the effective value competitive with programs that look better on paper.

More importantly, there's a 25% transfer bonus to LHW running through Saturday September 19 - just 11 days away. That bonus effectively improves the already-real value of moving ThankYou points to Leaders Club. If you've been curious about LHW properties (some of the most unique and upscale independent hotels in the world), this window is worth a look.

The answer is B - Leading Hotels of the World (LHW). Citi ThankYou Rewards is running a 25% transfer bonus to LHW's Leaders Club program through Saturday September 19. The 5:1 base transfer ratio looks steep, but the actual redemption value at LHW properties can make it surprisingly competitive - especially with the bonus applied.
