Something quietly shifted in the airline lounge world yesterday - and this time it's actually good news for economy-minded travelers who occasionally splurge on business class.

JetBlue just opened its second BlueHouse lounge and simultaneously reversed a policy that had frustrated domestic Mint passengers for months. Two pieces of news, one very good day for JetBlue loyalists. Let's get into it.

JetBlue unveiled its brand-new BlueHouse lounge at Boston Logan International Airport yesterday, making it the airline's second lounge location overall. The Boston BlueHouse is a major signal that JetBlue is serious about repositioning itself as a premium carrier - not just a budget option with wider seats.

But here's where it gets interesting: JetBlue also announced that Mint passengers on domestic routes can now access BlueHouse lounges for free. Previously, complimentary access was restricted to Mint flyers on international routes. That policy is now gone.

There is a small caveat. Passengers need to be flying a Mint or Mint Flex fare - not just a basic economy ticket with a Mint upgrade. So this isn't a universal perk for anyone who has ever touched a lie-flat seat. But if you're booking domestic Mint legitimately, lounge access is now part of the package.

Allegiant Air - yes, the airline famous for flying older aircraft to secondary markets at rock-bottom prices - just started selling seats in a brand-new premium cabin called Allegiant First. The first flights with the new recliner seats depart in March 2027, and bookings are open right now.

This is a genuine pivot. Allegiant has historically been pure no-frills: bag fees, seat fees, the works. Adding a dedicated first-class cabin with recliner seats is a completely different direction for the carrier, and it signals that budget airlines are increasingly looking upmarket to capture travelers who want a little comfort without paying legacy airline prices.

Allegiant First is interesting mostly as a data point about where the industry is heading. Whether the product is actually worth booking depends on the seat specs and pricing, which Allegiant hasn't fully detailed yet. Keep an eye on this one - March 2027 is far enough out that there's no urgency to book today.

Citi ThankYou is running a 25% transfer bonus when you move points to Leading Hotels of the World through September. This is the second time this year Citi has run this exact promotion, which tells you it's working for them - and potentially for cardholders who know how to use LHW points.

Leading Hotels of the World is a collection of independent luxury properties - think boutique palaces, small-island escapes, and family-run castles. The program doesn't have the ubiquity of Marriott or Hilton, but the properties that participate are often genuinely special.

The honest answer is that most Citi ThankYou points are better deployed through airline transfer partners where you can extract more than 1 cent per point in value.
