☀️ TRENDING MILES & POINTS NEWS

  • 💳 Delta Amex Cards: Second free checked bag added to Gold, Platinum, and Reserve cards with no annual fee increase

  • ✈️ Lufthansa First Class: Partner award space has completely disappeared - all programs affected since June 1

  • 🛒 Virgin Atlantic: 70% buy-points bonus is live now, bringing Flying Club points down to as low as 1.20 cents each

  • ✈️ Singapore Airlines: New business class seat assignment policy sends cheaper-fare passengers to the back of the cabin

Something quietly shifted in the loyalty world overnight - and one of the changes is a genuine win for travelers, while the other is a gut punch for anyone eyeing Lufthansa's famous first class.

Let's get into it.

🤓 Miles & Points Trivia

Which loyalty program just stopped releasing first class award space to partner programs entirely, as of the beginning of June 2026?

  • 🇦🇪 Emirates Skywards

  • 🇩🇪 Lufthansa Miles & More

  • 🇸🇬 Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer

  • 🇯🇵 ANA Mileage Club

✈️ Delta Amex Cards Just Got a Second Free Bag - With No Fee Hike

This one is a genuine upgrade with no strings attached. As of yesterday, June 4, 2026, Delta and American Express quietly added a complimentary second checked bag to the Delta Amex Gold, Platinum, and Reserve cards - both personal and business versions.

That's a meaningful change. Previously these cards offered one free checked bag. Now primary cardmembers get two, which at Delta's standard $40 per bag per direction, works out to $160 in savings on a single round-trip for two bags. The benefit extends to companions on the same reservation.

125,000 SkyMiles on the Table Right Now

The timing of this perk upgrade coincides with Delta and Amex rolling out some of the highest welcome offers we've seen on these cards in a long time - up to 125,000 SkyMiles depending on the card tier. If you've been on the fence about a Delta Amex card, the combination of the elevated bonus and the new second bag benefit makes the math considerably more interesting.

SkyMiles aren't the most flexible currency in the world, but for Delta loyalists, 125k miles can comfortably fund a round-trip to Europe in business class or several domestic round-trips. Check our Delta SkyMiles Calculator to see what your haul would be worth before you apply.

🚨 Lufthansa First Class Awards Just Went Dark for Partner Miles

This one stings. Since roughly June 1, 2026, Lufthansa has completely stopped releasing first class award space to partner loyalty programs. We're talking about all of them - United MileagePlus, Air Canada Aeroplan, Flying Blue, and every other Star Alliance program that previously had access.

Lufthansa first class is one of the most legendary redemptions in the miles world. The caviar service, the cradle beds, the famous "Flying Bar" on the A380 - it regularly tops lists of the best ways to spend your miles. The sweet spots using United miles or Aeroplan were particularly well-known, with business and first class seats accessible at rates most other premium products can't match.

Is This Permanent or a Temporary Inventory Squeeze?

That's the million-dollar question right now. Lufthansa has periodically restricted partner award space in the past, but a full blackout across all programs simultaneously is unusual. Some readers are speculating this could be a move toward a direct-booking-only model for first class awards, similar to how some carriers have tightened partner availability in premium cabins. Right now, there's no official statement.

Use Award Travel Finder to set alerts and check if any space reappears - historically these windows can open briefly before closing again.

As of the beginning of June, Lufthansa has just completely stopped releasing first class award space to partner programs. I was hoping to use this space myself for an upcoming trip.

💰 Buy Virgin Atlantic Points at 70% Bonus Right Now

Virgin Atlantic doesn't put its Flying Club points up for sale very often, so when they do run a promotion, it's worth paying attention. Right now, the program is offering a 70% bonus when you purchase points, bringing the cost down to between 1.20 and 1.48 cents per point depending on the volume you buy.

The appeal here isn't just about flying Virgin Atlantic itself. Flying Club is a transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, Capital One, and Citi - but the ability to buy points directly is separate from those transfer pathways and can be useful when you're just short of a redemption threshold.

Where Virgin Points Shine as a Booking Tool

The program's real value is as a partner booking tool. You can use Flying Club miles to book Delta One business class at rates that often undercut what you'd pay in SkyMiles directly. ANA first class via Virgin is another well-known sweet spot. If you're eyeing either of those redemptions and are short on miles, buying at 1.20 cents with a 70% bonus is one of the better purchase deals in the market right now.

You can check all current buy-points promotions in one place at our buy-points promotions tracker - worth bookmarking this week given how many deals are stacking up right now.

✈️ Singapore Airlines Business Class Just Got Less Democratic

Singapore Airlines has implemented a new seat assignment policy in business class that's raising eyebrows. Passengers who purchased cheaper business class fares are now being pushed toward the back of the cabin, with forward seats reserved for higher-fare ticket holders and elite members.

For an airline that has built its entire brand on premium service and hospitality, this feels a little off-brand. Singapore Airlines has long been celebrated for treating every business class passenger with the same level of care regardless of what they paid. A tiered seating policy within the cabin creates a visible hierarchy that previously didn't exist.

The Practical Impact for Award Travelers

Here's what this means if you're booking Singapore Airlines with KrisFlyer miles or partner points: award passengers may find themselves assigned to rear business class seats by default. The seats themselves are identical in hardware on most aircraft, but positioning in the cabin can affect boarding experience and service timing. Worth checking your seat assignment after booking if Singapore is on your itinerary.

🌿 Alaska Atmos Rewards' Global Getaways Goes Monthly

Alaska's newer loyalty program Atmos Rewards has updated its Global Getaways award sale structure. What was previously a quarterly promotion is now monthly, launching on the first Wednesday of each month - officially called Atmos Members Day. Members can save up to 50% on award tickets to select regions during these windows.

We covered Alaska's Atmos Rewards changes earlier this week when the program cut mileage earning on Saver fares - this monthly award sale cadence is a separate development and a more positive one. The catch is that availability is limited and the sale regions rotate, so you'll want to check early on the first Wednesday of each month rather than waiting.

The next Atmos Members Day will fall on Wednesday, July 1. Mark it in your calendar if you're an Atmos member looking for discounted award space.

⏰ Transfer Bonus Expiring Tomorrow

Quick heads up on a transfer bonus that's almost out of time: Rove Miles is offering a 25% bonus when transferring to Air Canada Aeroplan, but it expires tomorrow, Saturday June 6. If you've been planning an Aeroplan redemption and have Rove Miles sitting around, tonight is your last real window to act.

Aeroplan is one of the most versatile programs in the game - it partners with Star Alliance carriers, has strong transatlantic redemption rates, and doesn't pass on fuel surcharges for most partner bookings. A 25% bonus on transfer is a meaningful boost, especially if you're targeting a specific redemption and need to top up your balance.

🌎 Trivia Reveal

The answer is B - Lufthansa Miles & More. Since approximately June 1, 2026, Lufthansa has stopped releasing first class award space to all partner loyalty programs. This affects United MileagePlus, Air Canada Aeroplan, Flying Blue, and every other Star Alliance program that previously had access to this iconic redemption. There's no official explanation yet - watch this space.
